Up earlier than usual, packed, ate
breakfast, and left the hotel by 8:30. Our ultimate destination is Milan
but we plan on stopping in Cinque Terre before we arrive there. We have
no plans to explore Milan as it would be too rushed so when we get to
our hotel in Milan we'll just relax and get ready for the flight home
tomorrow.
Before we left Eric mentioned a place
called Cinque Terre, which is an area with 5 small seaside villages.
Ron wanted to check it out so we drove to La Spezia,a busy port town, to
catch the train. Guidebooks say driving to Cinque Terre or Riomaggiore,
the first of the little villages was unthinkable. The train ride was a
short 8 minutes and we were delivered to a quaint little town that I'm
sure explodes in the summer. We visited the castle, the church, and the
marina. We also stopped and had a delicious lunch where we met some
retired fellows educators from Oregon. We hopped back on the train and drove to Milan to end our journey.
