We were on the road by 8:00 for our 6 1/2 hour drive to our first stop in Maine. We went through Canada and saw lots of farmland. We skirted Montreal and went the back roads into Maine. At the border check the immigration and customs officer ended up being a young main from Rodman who graduated from South Jeff - his last name was Moore.
We found our campground with no problem and set up out little A-liner easily. Then we went out to explore for something to eat and ice. The small town of Stratton was only 4 miles away. It was only 4ish so the only thing open was the Coplin House, where we both had a delicious seafood au gratin and tasty desserts. Ron had Peach and Raspberry Cobbler with cinnamon ice cream and I had the salted caramel Chocolate Pot de Creme. The hostess was very informative and told us that this area was just down from Sugar Loaf Ski Resort and is very busy in the winter. She also gave us info. on Flagstaff Lake. After dinner we drove down Rt. 16 hoping to make a Moose sighting but no luck. We picked up ice and went back to the campground and read and had a Manhattan. It was early to bed for us!
