Trip to the Azores - Day Eight - Wednesday, November 1, 2017 - Terceira Island

Wow can't believe it is November 1st already. Happy All Saints Day. Here in the Azores it is a national holiday. Since most of the stores and museums are closed today we saved our hike to Monte Brasil for today. After breakfast we got directions from the hotel staff on how to get to Monte Brasil. It is about 20 minutes away walking. We had been there on our first day when we took the full day tour but it was raining then. They also said that there is a nice trail around the crater that takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to walk. I have to say that much of it was uphill and some of the trails weren't for the faint of heart. We saw many wonderful vistas though and had a much better view than on our first trip. From the time we left the hotel until the time got out of the park and headed downtown we were gone almost 4 hours. After our long walk we rewarded ourselves by going to one of the historic pastry shops in Angra that was founded in 1917. The tea and pastry really hit the spot. We went back to the hotel to rest our weary bones before we headed back to Angra for our 7:30 reservation at Adega Lusitania. It is just a 10 minute walk from our hotel. We had delicious steak dinners  - they told us there were 2 cows for every person on the island so we figured the steaks would be good - and more good red wine and said our good-byes to Angra as we are leaving tomorrow. It was a wonderful experience though. We saw many sights, enjoyed learning about a new culture and area of the world that we were unfamiliar with and had some great time to relax -  Another successful vacation. Stay tuned for our next adventures - in 2018 we'll be in Sacramento, Australia, the panhandle of Florida and on a Danube River Cruise.
