Camping trip to Maine - September 16, 2017 - Day Four - Mount Desert Campground, Mount Desert

Slept in until 8:40 today. Maine always was a good sleeping place for me. Our plan for today was to drive the 27 mile loop around Acadia National Park which we did accomplish. First we stopped at the visitors center and watched their introductory film. Being Saturday and somewhat crowded we weren't able to stop everywhere we wanted - there was no parking-  so we will probably return another day. The good thing is with our senior pass we get in free any day - that saves us $25 each visit. We did get to stop in numerous places and enjoy the view although it was a bit cloudy today and not the best for picture taking. We did venture out at Cadillac Mountain and enjoyed the panoramic views. The scenery really is beautiful. Again we decided on a late lunch or early dinner and headed toward the docks. We went to Beal's Pier in Southwest Harbor. For an appetizer we had 2 lbs of mussels. When we asked she said you usually get 12 to a lb. but we ended up with 75 - she greatly underestimated. After that we shared scallops, coleslaw and onion rings. Love the seafood. Took another short drive and headed back home to do some more reading. Since we were traveling so far we couldn't bring firewood- especially across the border- so campfires have been out. Tomorrow it's on to Bar Harbor!
