Camping trip to Maine - September 14, 2017 - Day Two - Cathedral Pines Campground, Eustis, Maine - Happy 88th Mom!

Had a nice breakfast with tea, oatmeal, fruit and zucchini bread before we went out for our hike. We found the Rt 27 Stratton Brook Hut Trail head. Ron had initially told me that it was a 3.3 mile hike. We opted to do the Maine Hut Trail up since it seemed less steep than the Oak Knoll trail. When we got to the top I realized that the 3.3 was only for the ascent. We checked out the huts. They are basically cubicles with anywhere from 3 to 8 bunk beds per room. It costs $90 a night and includes breakfast, dinner and a bag lunch. For an extra $25 they will take your bags up for you. The rooms were Spartan at best but the lodge was very pretty with a nice wood stove, comfy leather sofas, lots of dining space and showers and rest rooms. A short distance off there was also a beautiful vista. Walking up wasn't bad but the descent wasn't as much fun. It wasn't that steep - there were lots of switchbacks. What was bad was it was really a bike path but covered with all kinds of stones and rocks. It was tough on the feet. I was amazed that bikers actually rode on these trails but we did have some pass us and they were flying - awww youth!  I think our hike ended up around 7.5 miles. After that it was off to the White Wolf Restaurant for a beer and some sandwiches. We got back to the trailer about 5:00 and hit the showers. Had a quiet evening reading and I went to bed early.

Views from our hike

This was the only wildlife we saw on our hike - no moose!
